My Review

Characters

In the book The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe you will see all sorts of creatures. There are lions, giants, dwarfs, and talking animals.

Some main characters are:

Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy. They are all siblings to travel to Narnia via a magical wardrobe they stumble upon while playing hide-and-go-seek.

Aslan who is a noble lion and the true king of Narnia.

The white witch, who is the antagonist and rules Narnia.

Mr Tumnus, who is a half-man, half-goat. He befriends Lucy and helps her understand Narnia.

Magic

Narnia is a place full of magic. The white witch ruling Narnia, used dark magic, also known as witchcraft. With this dark magic she is able to maintain her rule over Narnia, by casting spells, creating enchantments and turning creatures into stone.

Most of the animals in Narnia are able to speak, and also take on more human-like qualities.

There are magical beings that have the ability to heal.

And lastly, there are objects that hold magic and possess certain abilities, such as the wardrobe being an entrance to Narnia.

Plot

The Pevenise siblings are evacuated from their home during WWII and are sent to live with a professor. During their stay they stumble across a magical wardrobe that leads them to land of Narnia. In Narnia, the White Witch who rules over Narnia, has cast an evil spell over the land. It is always winter, but will never get to Christmas.

When Edmund enters Narnia he encounters the White Whitch and falls under for her facade and believes he will one day become the prince of Narnia.

There is a prophecy that Aslan will one day return and the rightful king of Narnia. The four siblings eventually all rally together in helping Aslan return as rightful king.

Overall

I found the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe to be similar to Lord of the Rings. The writing style of C.S. Lewis is similar to Tolkien in the themes and character building of how they each write their respective stories. However, Narnia is much more fast paced, and not as thorough in the world building as LOTR.

Since this book takes place primarily in winter, it gave me all the fall vibes, and cold feels. I feel like it’s a good book to read in the winter if you are a mood reader! Although this book can be read by younger audiences, it is also a timeless book and is great for adults as well (:

Summary

Four adventurous siblings—Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie—step through a wardrobe door and into the land of Narnia, a land frozen in eternal winter and enslaved by the power of the White Witch. But when almost all hope is lost, the return of the Great Lion, Aslan, signals a great change . . . and a great sacrifice.

Open the door and enter a new world! The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is the second book in C. S. Lewis’s classic fantasy series, which has been captivating readers of all ages with a magical land and unforgettable characters for over sixty years.

Where to buy?

Since I go through books so fast, I normally don’t like to buy books brand new. For the most part I have found amazon to be a great place to find used books. They often offer great deals, and if you have amazon prime, shipping is free!

Get The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe here from amazon.

Another place I like to go for books is a website called thriftbooks. Often I’ll price compare between this website and amazon. Thriftbooks used to be cheaper than amazon, but lately I’ve been surprised with amazon. So you never know!

The last place I go to for books is kindle unlimited. Believe it or not you don’t need a kindle to get the benefits! Kindle has an app you can just download onto your phone. This is one of my favorite features because if I forget my kindle, I can still pull up the book on my phone! And the app does a great job switching to the last page I was on in the book even if it was on a different device.Â
