Review

Plot

With both of Saeris’s parents dead, she is left to fend for herself and her younger brother. Living in The Third of the Zilvaren city is a death wish. There is nothing but heat, desert, with very little water. The third is where the people with the ‘plague’ are left to die out.

Saeris has spent most of her life stealing to make ends meet.  One day she makes a fateful mistakes and steels something to great– somethings from queen Madra. This winds her up in the royal prison where she is to be execute.

While there, Saeris unknowingly opens a portal to another realm where she is hefted off by some strange man.  Kingfisher. He has a bad attitude, and is nothing but bluntness and mockery. Fisher if full of secrets and lets out only bits at a time, leaving Saeris more confused and frustrated.

Saeris wants to get back home to her brother and will do almost anything Kingfisher asks, so that he will take her back home. Little does she know, that when a blood oath is made, you are required to fulfill the oath my all means. So Saeris is stuck. She is stuck with Kinfisher and only one way to return back home.

Characters

In the book Quicksilver you will find humans, fae, vampires, witches, sprites, gods, alchemists, and other sorts of creatures.

The female main character, Saeris, is a human living in Zilvaren city with her brother Hayden.

The MMC, kingfisher, is fae and posses great power. He is stiff, arrogant, cunning, and deeply motivated by loyalty and those he loves.

Magic

There is all kinds of magic in Quicksilver. The more powerful fae are able to create portals, transferring them and others across the realm. They also have the ability to make new cloths appear on themselves or others, clean up a room that has been destroyed. Because they are fae, they also have more strength, longer lives, and quicker healing abilities than humans.

Alchemists are another type of beings that have special abilities. They are keenly aware to different metals, and especially quicksilver. Quicksilver is how certain portals are formed, allowing the transportation of beings amongst not just their own realm, but the universe. Alchemists have the ability to coerce and manipulate quicksilver, making them quite powerful.

Overall thoughts

At first I was quite unsure of this book. I started reading it because I saw a lot of good things written about this Quicksilver, and eventually decided to give it a try. Quicksilver was hard for me to get into, and I nearly put the book down all together. I have to say I’m so glad I didn’t! Quicksilver ended up reminding me a lot of the book called When the Moon Hatched.  Although the world building in Quicksilver was not as thorough and detailed as When the Moon Hatched, it was still a great story line, full of mystery and plot twists.

As the reader, you know that are kept in the dark about information regarding Kingfisher, the realm he comes from, and the fae he is surrounded by. It can be somewhat frustrating to know that as the reader the information is slowly being unfolded, but that’s half the fun! And why I tried to read the book so fast, I just couldn’t get enough.

I would also say that this book is not for the faint of heart. The spice scenes are quite intense, the violence can be quite gruesome, and there is a lot of profanity.

In the end I love how everything comes together, and think the second half of the book is much better than the first. The second half is much more action packed, the world building is starting to take place, and the overall pace picks up.

The FMC and MMC care quite passionate. They are firm in the conviction to what is right, and even more firm in protecting those they love. There is a lot of character development in this book, but even more so, there is a lot of development between the FMC and the MMC. You love and hate how they act together, and can’t wait to see how it all resolves.

If you didn’t like how much world building there was in the book When the Moon Hatched, I think Quicksilver will be the book for you! It still has all the intense spice, great action, and thrill of the chase.

Summary

Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses, or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen’s reservoirs for as long as she can remember. In the land of the unforgiving desert, there isn’t much a girl wouldn’t do for a glass of water.

When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The first of her kind to tread the frozen mountains of Yvelia in over a thousand years, Saeris mistakenly binds herself to Kingfisher, a handsome Fae warrior, who has secrets and nefarious agendas of his own. He will use her Alchemist’s magic to protect his people, no matter what it costs him… or her.

This will be a series! Book number 2 is scheduled to be released fall of 2025.

Where to buy?

Since I go through books so fast, I normally don’t like to buy books brand new. For the most part I have found amazon to be a great place to find used books. They often offer great deals, and if you have amazon prime, shipping is free!

Get Quicksliver here from amazon.

Another place I like to go for books is a website called thriftbooks. Often I’ll price compare between this website and amazon. Thriftbooks used to be cheaper than amazon, but lately I’ve been surprised with amazon. So you never know!

The last place I go to for books is kindle unlimited. Believe it or not you don’t need a kindle to get the benefits! Kindle has an app you can just download onto your phone. This is one of my favorite features because if I forget my kindle, I can still pull up the book on my phone! And the app does a great job switching to the last page I was on in the book even if it was on a different device.Â
