My thoughts
Characters
The characters in One Dark Window were very relatable. Besides the magic, the relatability to the characters one of my favorite aspects about reading this book. Each character was so different from the other, having different faults, different backgrounds, and therefore each making different decisions when presented with dilemmas that fit their character quite well.
Sometimes when it comes to fantasy, there are MC who overcome trails that seem a little unrealistic. Even though the world in and of itself isn’t real. Are you getting my point? It’s like sometimes a character can fend off 5 foes at once, but the one foe strikes them down almost incompetent. Maybe it’s the inconsistency of the characters abilities? Regardless, One Dark Window was not like that, and I felt each character had their flaws and strengths which you could relate to.
Magic
The magic in One Dark Window is very intriguing and I really enjoyed the thought put into it. In fact, the whole book is about how to obtain and use magic. The magic is only accessible through cards. When tapped three times the user of a certain card is then able to use the magic of the card. Because the magic isn’t contained to a single person, but rather can be transferred between users, this creates a fight for power like I haven’t read before.
The magic at times can seem like darker magic, but that ultimately depends on the user. Just like any other magic though! Am I right?! There was never a point in One Dark Window where I felt like the magic became too dark, giving me creepy vibes.
Plot
When it comes to fantasy and magic, sometimes books can get pretty predictable. That also depends on the writers style, and how much they inform the reader throughout the book. While there were some parts that I saw coming, at the end of One Dark Window I was quite surprised and didn’t see it coming.
Overall
Although I found One Dark Window pretty predictable, I loved the unique story line, the way magic is used, and the realness of the characters. The book ends on a cliff hanger! So of course I didn’t even wait and started reading the next book right away.
Summary
