Characters
In The Lightning Thief you will see all kinds of mythological creatures. There are centaurs, sirens, nymphs, satyrs, and minotaurs. There are also the mythological gods, Poseidon, Zeus, Hades, Athena, Hermes, and Ares.Â
Percy Jackson, who has always struggled to stay in school. Eventually Percy is exposed to a world of gods and mythological creatures, where he finds that he is the son of Poseidon.Â
Magic
In The Lightning Theif there is magic that comes from the gods, demigods, enchantments, and other magical items. Each god has a different ability, such as Poseidon controlling the ocean and Zeus being over lightning. Demigods and other characters in The Lightning Thief are also able to wield magic depending on their parentage.Â
Plot
Through Percy Jackson discovery of being Poseidons son, he learns that he also needs to find an object and bring it back to Poseidon. As Percy and his friends embark on this journey, Percy learns that the world is full of mythological creatures. Percy goes from one challenge to the next as he faces different creatures and tries to complete is journey.Â
This is a pretty fast paced book, full of action, adventure, and even some humor.Â
Overall
I really enjoyed all the action in The Lightning Thief and how fast paced it was.Through Percys training at the Half-Blood camp, he also learns to master combat skills, and enchantment. While Percy is in the camp, the tension and excitement builds up to when he finally leaves for his quest to aid Poseidon. Percy go from one adventure to the next and encounters so many different creatures along the way. It’s hard to put the book down, because you don’t really find a resting point in the story.Â
Summary
Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school again—he can’t seem to stay out of trouble. Is he supposed to stand by while a bully picks on his scrawny best friend? Or not defend himself when his teacher turns into a monster and tries to kill him?
Mythical creatures seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology textbook and into his life. What’s worse, he’s angered a few of them: Zeus’s master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.
Percy and his friends Grover the satyr, and Annabeth, the demigod daughter of Athena, must find and return Zeus’s stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. They travel cross country to the gates of the Underworld in Los Angeles, facing a host of enemies determined to stop them.

The last place I go to for books is kindle unlimited. Believe it or not you don’t need a kindle to get the benefits! Kindle has an app you can just download onto your phone. This is one of my favorite features because if I forget my kindle, I can still pull up the book on my phone! And the app does a great job switching to the last page I was on in the book even if it was on a different device.Â
