My Review

Characters

In the book Eragon you will find dragons, elves, urgal, fae and other mythical beings.

Eragon is the main character who is a 15 years human. When Eragon discovers a dragon egg that hatches, he is marked as aa Dragon Rider. This event sets off a chain reaction of danger and conflict. When the tyrant king, Galbatorix, learns about the dragon, he sends his forces to hunt Eragon down.

After his home is attacked by soldiers sent by Galbatorix, leading to the death of his uncle Garrow, Eragon realizes that staying would put his remaining loved ones in jeopardy. To seek revenge and to protect others, he decides to leave his village of Carvahall.

Along the way Eragon encounters Brom, who is a former dragon rider, and trains Ergaon in not only riding his dragon, but also discovering his powers.

Magic

The magic in Eragon is primarily wielded through an ancient language. The words in this language have inherent power, and when spoken can perform different actions.

Dragons posses their own kind of magic and when they bond with a rider, their magic becomes more potent. Another aspect with dragons and riders is they are able to use telepathy in communicating with each other. This happens through their bond and dragon and rider. (My personal favorite part of the story!)

Plot

Like most fantasy books, the plot and theme of the book is good vs evil. Galbatorix who is the king in the land, was once a Dragon Rider but became corrupted by power. He destroyed the order of Dragon Riders to eliminate potential threats to his rule, which led to the decline of magic and the suffering of many. Galbatorix also uses dark magic and has aligned with evil creatures.

Although Ergaon starts out getting revenge for the death of his uncle, the more he learns about the struggle of his people, he realizes the oppression the kingdom faces due to a corrupt king. Eragons mission then becomes not one of revenge, but one of freedom and justice.

Overall

Eragon is 100% one of my top ten favorite books. I love the mythical world that Paolini creates, and the characters within that world. Although I do wish Eragon was older, I forget his age and carry on with the story.

I love the element of dragons, bond forming, and the use of language to form magic. This book is definitely worth reading more than once!

Summary

When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.

Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.

Where to buy?

Since I go through books so fast, I normally don’t like to buy books brand new. For the most part I have found amazon to be a great place to find used books. They often offer great deals, and if you have amazon prime, shipping is free!

Get Eragon here from amazon.

Another place I like to go for books is a website called thriftbooks. Often I’ll price compare between this website and amazon. Thriftbooks used to be cheaper than amazon, but lately I’ve been surprised with amazon. So you never know!

The last place I go to for books is kindle unlimited. Believe it or not you don’t need a kindle to get the benefits! Kindle has an app you can just download onto your phone. This is one of my favorite features because if I forget my kindle, I can still pull up the book on my phone! And the app does a great job switching to the last page I was on in the book even if it was on a different device.Â
