My Review

Characters

In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone you will find wizards, house elves, broomsticks, a sorting hat, a troll, and a three headed dog.

Harry Potter is the main character who is an orphan living with his Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon, and cousin Dudley Dursley. The Dursleys are his only living relatives, and they treat him poorly, often neglecting and mistreating him.

Eventually Harry discovers that he is a wizard and travels to Hogwartz, a school for wizards. There he finds two close friends, Hermione and Ron. All three of these friends are sorted into the Gryffindor house by the sorting hat.

Magic

Because Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is about wizards, all the magic deals with spell casting, potions, charms, and dark arts.

Spell casting is the most common type of magic. This is where wizards and witches uses wands to cast a spell.

Potions involves mixing magical ingredients to create effects. These effects can be healing, transformation or even love.

Charms are spells that add specific properties to objects without changing their nature.

Overall

There is a reason for Harry Potter to be a classic alongside Lord of the Rings. J.K. Rowling writing is incredible. She does an outstanding job with the world building, character creating, and overall writing style. I love the way she writes and how she creates not only a story, but a universe. The pace of Harry Potter is faster than Lord of the Rings, so if LOTR is too slow for you I would recommend giving Harry Potter a try.

Summary

Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry’s eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

Where to buy?

Since I go through books so fast, I normally don’t like to buy books brand new. For the most part I have found amazon to be a great place to find used books. They often offer great deals, and if you have amazon prime, shipping is free!

Get Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s stone here from amazon.

Another place I like to go for books is a website called thriftbooks. Often I’ll price compare between this website and amazon. Thriftbooks used to be cheaper than amazon, but lately I’ve been surprised with amazon. So you never know!

The last place I go to for books is kindle unlimited. Believe it or not you don’t need a kindle to get the benefits! Kindle has an app you can just download onto your phone. This is one of my favorite features because if I forget my kindle, I can still pull up the book on my phone! And the app does a great job switching to the last page I was on in the book even if it was on a different device.
